8/23/2011 2 Comments Stupid Hormones. Angel UpdateSo, last Thursday, I did a weigh in and I was down another 0.9 pounds from Monday. I weighed in yesterday after a three mile jog and a mile dog walk? I was up 1.8 pounds from Thursday.
While we did have Mexican food out this weekend (sadly, twice, as we took Phyllis to the store and she wanted to eat lunch, so it was over to El Porton for lunch Sunday and we had Riviera Maya on Friday night), I know that I did not consume an extra 6300 calories over what I burn just breathing and what not. It is time for hormonal weight gain too, so I am assuming between the high salt in restaurant food and water weight that is the reason for the gain. I may not weigh in again on the Wii until that water is for sure gone! Glad to see Sis is cooking up a storm! I did some new stuff last week. We're having left over Peh-con (tempeh bacon) PAT's (pehcon, argula, and tomato sandwiches) for lunch, as our air is out today (we're waiting on the electrician to get here and fix the breaker box wire that burned out). It's too hot to cook. No one went biking or running today either, as there was no cool house to come home to (and we had to start calling electricians from the get go). I do have a very long cord connecting the live outlet to the modem, so at least we can work while we sweat and wait.

8/22/2011 0 Comments New recipes!So...I cooked all afternoon yesterday, in preparation for having healthy things to eat for lunch and dinner this week. I came up with some yummy stuff. One thing I made was called Tofu Keema, which I was a little doubtful about, but actually tastes pretty good. The other things I made were falafels, complete with a tzatziki sauce. I actually came up with my own recipe, using the chickpea flour I had bought recently. They were awesome and I will definitely be making more. As a bonus, they were totally vegan and very low in fat, as I used the spray olive oil to brown the falafels in the oven. Yummo!
8/20/2011 10 Comments Update from Renee'I did weigh last Thurday, after my vacation, and had gained 1/4#, which I didn't feel TOO bad about, considering I had consumed a few goodies (in moderation, of course!) while in Minneapolis at the CGOA dinner and fashion show. This past Thurday, I weighed again to find I had lost that 1/4#....plus another 1/2#! Success! I didn't wish to deprive myself during vacation, but wanted to be sensible about how many "treats" I enjoyed. Not too bad, I think. This brings me down to 180.5#. I am hoping to break 180 very, very soon. Haven't seen that in a little while!
On the cooking front, I made another batch of eggplant curry, from the recipe in The Candle Cafe' Cookbook, which I borrowed from Angel. It is destined for the freezer with a little pearl couscous for lunches during the week. Then this is what we had on Wednesday night. It was also from The CCC. It is Black Bean Soup. It called for vegetable stock, and since Angel had me save the stock we cooked our seitan in, I went to the freezer and thawed out 2 quarts to use in the soup. It was tasty! Next time, though, I will cook it entirely in the pressure cooker, as I am just too impatient to cook beans all day to get them as soft as I like them. Week before last I mentioned I had checked out some cookbooks. After looking through them, I decided to see if there was a Kindle edition of The Passionate Vegetarian (there isn't, just in case you're wondering); but, I did find a good used copy for $4.69, plus with a $5 Amazon coupon, it is basically mine for the cost of shipping, which is less than $4! Another score! I can't wait to get my own copy, as I had to return the one to the library; this way I won't smudge up the library copy while I am cooking. Until next time, this is Renee', signing off! Good eats! 8/15/2011 2 Comments Angel\'s Monday UpdateI got in a run today and yesterday. I do like step aerobics, but they just aren't as good as a nice jog outside.
And, I lost 1.1 pounds since last Monday's weigh in! So, I guess a Friday evening with Dani at the Capitol Hotel Bar & Grill didn't undo the hard work during the week (of course, we are both really cheap bar dates with all the teetotaling we have been doing). The Vita-Mix should be here Wednesday, and I think my poor blender will be happy to retire. It's keeping us in breakfast smoothies, but even when the bananas are not frozen, it complains a bit. 8/10/2011 8 Comments Checking in...So, Angel has weighed in for the week. I usually weigh on Tuesdays at work, but was off yesterday and today for my 5 day weekend stretch at the hospital. I will weigh tomorrow and post my gains/losses on here. I have been on vacay for about 2 1/2 weeks and was not so good while I was gone, so, expect a little gain. But it won't take me long to pick myself up, dust off the powdered sugar and get right back on the wagon! On the subject of seitan...well, let's just say it made an appearance in some marinara sauce with diced veggies over some polenta and no one even noticed that it wasn't meat! Score one for veganism!
Also, I checked out a few books from library: The Passionate Vegetarian by Crescent Dragonwagon and Step-by-Step Indian Cooking by Sharda Gopal. Should find some interesting new recipes 8/8/2011 1 Comment Weigh In Monday: AngelI hadn't Wii-weighed since before the KC trip. I got on today and I'm down 0.4 pounds. Now, I just have to do that like 49 more times. :)
8/6/2011 1 Comment Vitamix Ordered! After years of threatening, Angel finally ordered a refurbished Vitamix. Her blender is on borrowed time, and she keeps making it chew up frozen fruit. So, it was time. Wonder how long it will take to get here?
8/5/2011 0 Comments Fat Sister #2 Checking InThanks to Renee for getting us started! I had a great time cooking with her this past week, and I hope that when she updates us on her use of the "brains" (seitan) that we made (well, she made it, I just told her what to do and supervised) that she finds it acceptable.
Like my slightly more seasoned counterpart, I've found that it's hard after 40 to get rid of this extra. I went veganish a bit ago; I do still occasionally eat cheese and eggs, but only occasionally. I am proud to say that I weighed this morning and managed to not work out for a week and a half and be on the road the entire time and not gain anything. I've got 20 to go to be out of the "overweight" BMI category, so, that's what I'm working on (or off, as the case may be). Our focus here is accountability, but I'm sure we'll be sharing quite a few recipe successes and disasters along the way. I think that to budge this 20 is going to require some shunning of breads and not giving in to the occasional cheese fest. 8/2/2011 2 Comments Welcome to Two Fat Sisters!Allow me to introduce myself...I am Renee', one half of the Two Fat Sisters. I am the...ahem....more "seasoned" sister. My sister Angel and I decided to start a site that chronicles our journey to becoming the Two Healthy Sisters.
I have found as I have gotten older that losing weight and keeping a healthy weight is becoming more and more difficult. With the help of Weight Watchers, I have brought my weight down from 198 pounds to 183 pounds. My goal weight is 140. Since the Weight Watchers group I was attending disbanded, I needed another source of accountability. So Angel and I are teaming up to be accountable to each other as well as to you, our readers. (All three of you!) My sister was recently visiting and we spent a couple of days cooking. She has been mostly vegan for some time now, so was imparting some vegan wisdom. We made seitan (more on that in another blog post) and samosas (which can be seen below, with a lovely cucumber and fennel salad). I have also made a couple of recipes from the vegan cookbook, The Candle Cafe' Cookbook. One was a tasty eggplant curry and the other was a vegan lasagna with a tofu ricotta, grilled eggplant and zucchini. That was pretty yummy, too. I hope you will all follow our blog and encourage us as we work our way toward being slimmer and healthier! |
The Two Fat SistersRenee and Angel welcome you to their blog. Hopefully we can change our name some time. In the meantime, watch as we try to get there. Archives
